What is the Bettear app?
GCTC will be testing the Bettear app in our Mainstage space in March 2025.
This app is an AI-powered assistive listening solution that allows Hard-of-Hearing/Deaf individuals to use their personal smartphone device and connect via Bluetooth with their hearing aids, cochlear implants, or personal headphones. The platform delivers assistive listening and captioning on the phone so that you can engage with the show as you wish without having to pick up a device from the GCTC box office. This app is being developed with Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf community members in Canada. They are eager to learn more from our community of theatre-goers about what can be improved, what things you like from the app, and whether this meets your needs when coming to the theatre and using assistive listening technology. The hope is that this technology can be made available in all theatres in Canada so that audiences can have one app that gives them access to all theatres' assistive listening systems.
How to use the Bettear app
Download the Bettear app: Apple App Store here and Google Play Store here.
Bring your smartphone, and connect your hearing aids, cochlear or headphones to your smartphone
Open the Bettear app
Press “Tap to Search” once in the venue
Press “Join”
Turn off your phone screen and adjust the volume as needed
Sit back and enjoy the show!
