Propeller Dance presents:
Reasons to be Cheerful!
Join Propeller Dance and GCTC in a joyful celebration of Ian Dury’s birthday, of his riotous disability anthem, “Spasticus Autisticus,” and of the disability justice movement.
Propeller Dance Company and the Great Canadian Theatre Company are thrilled to present Reasons to be Cheerful, 60 minutes of video fun, featuring
Ed Hanley’s film montage of four incarnations of Propeller’s ever-evolving Spasticus
framed by two performances of Ian Dury’s “Spasticus Autisticus”
one a madcap, energetic, gleeful video from Graeae Dance Theatre of Great Britain
the other, a wonderful, mesmerizing one-woman “dance translation” by Dutch sign-dancer, Mirjam Stolk
PLUS access for free as a video bonus: comedian/actor Alan Shain hosts Performing Spasticus, a recorded talk with Propeller’s Liz Winkelaar, Sylvain Bouchard, and Renata Souter and Richard Matthews from Graeae Dance Theatre of Great Britain.
