Meet The Staff - Vishesh Abeyratne
Today we are introducing you to Vishesh Abeyratne! One of our fantastic Box Office Assistants, Vishesh has been working in the GCTC Box Office for about 6 months now, but his journey with the company began when former Artistic Director Eric Coates invited him to serve as a playwright-in-residence.
Vishesh has seen many shows at GCTC, but gives a special shout out to Kat Sandler’s “Bang Bang”, a dark, fast-paced dramedy from 2019. “I get high on uncomfortable laughter and that play delivered the goods,” Vishesh said.
Day-to-day at GCTC, Vishesh can be seen at the Box Office booking tickets, managing subscriptions, and answering questions from patrons. When there’s a show on, he’s either scanning tickets as folks arrive or serving drinks up at the bar! (Always tip your bartenders!) Recently, Vishesh worked as Production Assistant on “Ritual Music to Cure a Lover” by Shahin Sayadi.
Outside of work, Vishesh can be found writing (of course), or reading. He can often be found with his nose stuck in a book - often several at the same time - and is currently enjoying “Circe” by Madeline Miller.
When asked what he loves about GCTC, Vishesh said: “I really love the camaraderie exhibited by the whole team. Everyone has each other's backs. There's no preciousness or vanity about what we're doing here. We're all simply motivated by our love of theatre, and the need to create an environment in which compassion is essential to making it happen.”
To learn even more about Vishesh and his playwriting practice, check out this interview from 2021 on our Youtube, and make sure to catch him in the Box Office during “Speaking Vibrations” May 24-June 4th. Get your tickets here.
